Mesh

When stringing a mesh stick, to stitch the mesh onto the head, you first need to add a top string. There are multiple ways to do this. There is a 9 diamond top string, a 10 diamond top string, and a triangle top string. These are the most common types.  The 9 diamond top string is the least complicated and easiest to master.

To form a pocket in a mesh stick, use the sidewall to string the edges or diamonds of the mesh to the sides of the head. You can use different patterns that fit to your liking to form your pocket. These patterns can also determine if the pocket in the stick will be high, mid, or low.  Each individual generally has a different preference for the location of the pocket.

To finish the installation of the mesh, next install a bottom string.  This is when one laces a string through the bottom of the mesh to attach it to the neck of the head. Then, you can choose how many shooting strings to add in along the top of the mesh.  The shooting strings will help determine how much hold and whip the stick has.

Traditional Style

To string a traditional style stick, there are a few methods to choose from. The most common is called a six diamond traditional stick and it has four individual leathers.  With this method, one interlocks all the way down the head, before starting on the pocket. Weave sidewall string through the middle of the stick in the form of diamond like figures. Before you do the sidewalls, you need to tie the leathers from the top holes in the head down to the bottom holes at the neck of the stick. Once you have strung up the head, weave the shooting strings through to control the amount of whip in your stick.

Traditional lacrosse sticks are much more difficult to use because one  has to constantly maintain and adjust the pocket. Learning how to string the traditional style is much harder than stringing regular mesh.
